In part 1, I shared tips to make your stay in SF a little easier on your wallet. Once you've gotten hotel and transportation set, it really pays off to plan your activities - or at least create a list of things you might want to do.
Golden Gate Park / The Haight / Richmond District
Golden Gate park is full of activities for all ages. One place you MUST visit at least once is the California Academy of Sciences. It's a natural history museum, planetarium, and aquarium all under one roof - and it's amazing. It's also home to a beautiful 4-story glass enclosed rainforest with free-flying butterflies. After the museum, a great way to see more of the park is by bike or segway along its countless paths.
Right outside of Golden Gate Park, in the Haight, you'll find the Blue Front Cafe (you can thank me later). I have breakfast here at least once every single time I'm in the city. They have the most delicious & hearty breakfast choices AND delicious Middle Eastern food - perfect fuel for a long day of sightseeing.
A great place to explore while you're visiting this side of the city is Sutro Baths, where you can climb through the ruins of a 19th century sea-side pool complex. The view is amazing and the climb down to the beach makes for great photos. Just be sure to wear comfortable clothing & sneakers.
Richmond is another great place to explore and has lots of good eats. Green Apple Books is one of my favorite book stores, anywhere. They have the most welcoming kids area with tons of books shelved from floor to ceiling. My daughter & I lose ourselves for hours every time we visit. Inner Richmond also hosts my favorite farmers market in the city - the Clement Street market on Sundays.
Fisherman's Wharf / Pier 39
What is a visit to San Francisco without a stop for clam chowder at Fisherman's Wharf? I know, so touristy, but I need my fried seafood fix! Ghirardelli Square is my favorite stop in the area - the perfect place to share a dessert or grab a hot chocolate on a cold night. If you find yourself on Pier 39, Magowan's Infinite Mirror Maze can be a lot of fun for both kids & adults. It's only $5 to get in, and there's no limit on the amount of time you spend inside.
Union Square
This is where I spend most of my time because I love shopping. After shopping we're usually hungry and Union Square has some great places to eat. My latest obsession is Colibri, an incredibly delicious Mexican restaurant. I recommend the Tostadas de Tinga, Pozole Verde, Sopa de Tortilla, & the Mole. They also have delicious cocktails, two dozens different mezcales, and ultra premium tequilas.
